Workout Your Brain
Your brain is constantly rewiring itself. As you read this sentence, neurons are forming new connections, strengthening existing ones, and pruning others that go unused. For most of the 20th century, scientists held that the brain's capacity to adapt ended after early development. Research has since proven this wrong.
A study at University College London followed trainee taxi drivers through the full qualification process, which requires memorizing roughly 25,000 streets. This process is so demanding it takes three to four years and carries a failure rate of nearly 50%. Only the drivers who qualified showed measurable growth in the posterior hippocampus, the region responsible for spatial memory. Even more so, the volume grew in proportion to the years of experience.
What the taxi drivers showed us is that the brain responds to deliberate training. That principle is the foundation of Cognitive Fitness: the capacity of your brain to sustain attention, form memories, process information, and adapt to new demands. We know how to train our bodies. Most of us have never been shown how to train our minds. During Brain Awareness Week, we hosted our first brain workout, bringing our community together to experience exactly that. People came together, trained their minds, and watched what shifted in real time. The brain you have tomorrow is shaped by what you do today.
This is exactly what Soma is building toward. We are building so that the work your brain does every day becomes something you can see, understand, and act on. Take the first step by completing this survey and be among the first to measure your cognitive fitness.
