You Can’t Optimize What You Can’t Measure

Some of the most powerful tools humans have invented didn’t change reality, they simple made the invisible, visible. Thermometers, scales, rulers, clocks, each one of these transformed something we could only sense into something we could see, track, and learn from.

This weekend, the Soma team joined our friends at Lume Health to experience this magic firsthand. We went to a Soul Cycle class and measured our cortisol levels before and after. Watching our numbers double after the workout didn't just confirm how hard we'd worked, it gave us tangible proof of what our bodies were doing. There was something oddly satisfying about seeing the invisible stress response become a concrete number on a screen.

We're living in an era where we measure nearly everything about ourselves: steps, sleep, heart rate, macros, screen time. Yet when it comes to the organ that controls all of this, things are still pretty much vibe based. We sense when we're stressed. We know when we're distracted. We can feel when we're in flow. But without objective measures, it's incredibly difficult to pin down when things start to dip, what triggers the change, or how to reliably get back to peak performance.

This is the gap we’re closing at Soma: the distance between "I feel sharp today" and "the data shows I'm actually less engaged.” Imagine seeing your cognitive performance change in real-time: understanding what activities drain you versus energize you, knowing when you're actually focused versus just staring at a screen, catching longterm changes in memory before it’s too late.

Your brain health is too important, don’t leave it up to guesswork.
